This week’s journal prompt looks at your processes for carrying out tough decisions, with inspirational assistance from Serena Williams (above) and Rick Ross (video).
Journal Prompt: Who’s in charge here?
There’s a file on my computer marked “Boss Mode.” This is where I record decisions I have made after careful consideration in a calm and lucid state. Most importantly, this is where I go to take direction when I’m feeling frenzied or exhausted (as I often am).
Boss Mode is reserved for those things I know with full certainty I want, but don’t always feel like doing. I trust my boss-mode decisions, not only because they take into account big-picture goals, but also because they respect my day-to-day wellbeing. I don’t write punishing prescriptions for myself. For example, this is where I commit to 10 minutes of daily meditation. It’s also where I committed to pausing client work in order to give myself a sabbatical to start the Agency Agency and this newsletter.
How do you recognize and respect your boss-mode authority? Consider these journaling prompts:
Which conditions support your best decision making?
When it comes time to execute, how do you remind yourself of your decisions?
What factors make it easier to trust the decisions you made? What factors make it harder?
What’s a good example of a time when you came to a decision and stuck with it despite difficulty? What made you able to trust yourself as the boss?
